Oscar Landerretche is the Director of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Chile and a professor of the Department of Economics. He is also a professor of economics and founding member of the INFOCAP Union Leader School, directs the Economics Workshop for Young Socialists (TEJOS) of the Instituto Igualdad, and is a member of the Financial Endowment Committee of the Socialist Party of Chile. He teaches and researches in Macroeconomics, Labour Economics and Political Economy. He was the founding director of the Masters in Public Policy programme of the University of Chile. Additionally, he was the Chilean partner of Global Source Partners of New York for five years. He began his career as a junior economist working in the Central Bank of Chile as economic analyst and more recently has been a member of the GDP Trend Expert Committee and of the Financial Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Finance. He was the Executive Secretary for the political programme of President Bachelet during the 2006 Concertación primaries, Executive Secretary of the Presidential Advisory Council on Labour and Equality, and Chief Economist of President Frei’s 2010 presidential campaign. He is a regular columnist in a variety of magazines, newspapers and blogs, as well as a syndicated editorial columnist at the La Tercera newspaper. He also holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT.
